Thornberrys Bakery
Our Roots: Founded by Joseph Carroll Thornberry in 1936, Thornberry’s Bakery has been a Louisville staple for generations. Our journey began with a small shop, later evolving into a beloved pie shop at 5103 South 3rd Street.
A Growing Legacy: Over the years, our family expanded the business, from running a grocery and restaurant to supplying wholesale pies to local hotels and restaurants. In 1979, my Uncle Jim and Aunt Jeanine took over, operating the bakery until 2004.
A Twist in the Story: After a brief period outside the family, my brother, Kevin, and I reclaimed the bakery in 2011, honoring our time-tested recipes. However, challenges led to our closure in 2013.
A New Chapter: In March 2024, Thornberry’s Bakery found a new home at Harbor House of Louisville, where our profits support an incredible organization that empowers people of all ages and abilities. Giving back to our community is at the heart of what we do.
